Designers carry great responsibility regarding the potential impact of their body-near products upon humans as social beings. They may have the ability to influence the way we interact socially, our sense of community, or even society as a whole. This research presents the outcomes and results of a 5-day (40-hour) workshop done in the University of Antwerp. The workshop focused on the design of future wearable products as an innovative approach to improve human social abilities, or in other words, to enable the social augmentation of humans. Ideation and conceptualization of future social augmentation products are explored by means of this workshop with fifteen bachelor students from the discipline of product development. Explicit and pragmatic means of critical thinking were encouraged through fast prototyping, followed by role-playing and debating. As such, this work describes the applied process and outcomes of the students and examines whether the proposed method is a good contribution to the design world for social innovation through human and machine hybridity.
