Although the shift from page to screen has dramatically redefined conceptions of writing, very little is known about how students compose with multiple modes in digital environments. In order to respond to the multi-modal realities and bridge multi-modal practices inside and outside the classroom, the aim of this case study is to integrate multi-modal composing activities into L2 writing classroom, so as to examine how 35 sophomores majoring in English make and refine their PPT. More importantly, the multi-draft process approach will be employed to provide students with the opportunity to self-reflect and further revise their PPT slides. Data are collected from multiple sources, including learners’ written text and multiple drafts of multi-modal texts (PPT slides), questionnaires, audio and video recordings, interviews, checklists, and written reflections. The findings will be discussed in relation to 1) students’ strategy use and product effects during the designing phases, and 2) how students reflect on and response to feedback emotionally, cognitively, and behaviorally in revision and redrafting phases. Such findings will have implications not only for the development of students’ multi-literacy skills through digital multi-modal writing, but also for teacher’s understanding and guidance to students’ digital multi-modal writing.
